Confiance et jeunesse émanent des premières notes de la captivante Ballade pour orchestre de Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, ce compositeur afro-britannique qui a su tailler sa place dans le Londres du 19e siècle. Lumineux, le jeu du pianiste David Jalbert sublime l’exigeante partition de Prokofiev. Au podium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin dirige l’Orchestre dans la cinquième de Sibelius, une oeuvre unique aux qualités picturales et dramatiques hors du commun.

The confidence of youth emanates from the first notes of the captivating Ballade for Orchestra written by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, an African-British composer who made a name for himself in 19th-century London. David Jalbert’s brilliant piano playing elevates Prokofiev’s demanding score to the sublime. On the podium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the orchestra for Sibelius’s fifth symphony, a unique piece with sweeping imagery and extraordinary drama.
